Some of Jessica Lunsford's fondest memories were made in school, so when her father said he wanted a playground built in his daughter's memory, ABC Action News decided to help make that happen.
What is it?
Homosassa Elementary School's playground was in need of an extreme makeover. The goal of the project was to give Citrus County's children a new place to smile and have fun while also offering a way to keep the vivacious third-grader's memory alive.
Who was involved?
Lexington Homes, our partner from the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition rebuilding of the Dolan home and the Extreme Makeover: Kennel Edition project, once again donated their time, know-how, and materials to fulfill a promise they made to Mark Lunsford back in the spring of 2005.
The Chrysler Championship, the PGA Tour event that comes to Tampa each October, agreed to help. It's a not-for-profit event that raises and then donates approximately$1.2 million to Tampa Bay area charities through its "Birdies for Tampa Bay Charities" program.
The Birdies for Tampa Bay Charities program will added 30 cents to every dollar donated to the playground project. That meant if someone donated $100, it really became $130 that went to Jessica's Playground.
